MEDITATION

Meditation in Tibetan is gom, which means ‘to become familiar’ – and to become familiar with what? Your own mind!

Meditation journeys incorporate group meditation sessions along with discussions on Buddhist philosophy into the daily itinerary. In this way we discover the living wisdom tradition of the region from an inner, as well as an outer, journey. Both meditation and philosophy sessions are introductory and approached from a beginner level – no prior experience is necessary.

We practice Shamatha meditation, which is Sanskrit for ‘calm abiding’. This practice gives the monkey-mind a job, which helps it to settle and become workable. This is where mindfulness has come from. As the busy-ness of our mind calms, and we are less swept away by the speediness of our world, then we are able to cultivate our innate qualities such as compassion and wisdom.
